Terms and Conditions

Thank you for using the ABTA Peer2Peer Support Live Chat.

Our Peer2Peer Live Chat Service is delivered by our Peer Support Volunteers and monitored by ABTA team. By using this service, you agree to the Terms and Conditions below.

The service aims to provide women, birthing people and fathers and non-birthing parents with accessible, short-term peer support through the opportunity to chat online with experienced Peer Volunteers who can engage in empathic, non-judgmental conversations to support people that identify as having either psychological and physical trauma from the birth process (birth-related trauma).

The chat service does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment of any conditions. This service is available to Australia.

Our Peer Volunteers are here to help guide you to specific care pathways that will support you in your healing process.

This service is available to those who are 18 years or over. We recognise that young people require a specialised response from services able to provide specific therapeutic support, such as KidsHelpLine (www.kidshelp.com.au), phone 1800 55 1800.

If you, or someone you know is in immediate danger of hurting themselves or others please call 000 now. If you require crisis support please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

In using ABTA’s Peer2Peer Online Chat, you agree to engage in a manner that is respectful and safe for all parties.

ABTA does not accept any liability for any injury, loss or damage incurred by use of or reliance on the information provided.

Confidentiality

Our Volunteers understand the importance of confidentiality and maintaining your privacy. Your information may be shared with a ABTA staff member when it is in the interest of resolving your enquiry.  We will not share your information with any other organisation without your express permission, except where we are required to do so under law. This may apply in circumstances where we have a “duty of care”; that is, when you are at serious risk of harming yourself or harming someone else, there is imminent danger to you, or there is a child protection concern.

ABTA securely stores transcripts of Live Chat sessions. De-identified transcripts may be used for evaluation and training purposes.

Protecting Your Privacy

ABTA is committed to the privacy of people contacting the Peer2Peer Support Program.

The Peer2Peer Support Program (Live Chat service) operates within Australian legal requirements and Standards for Privacy and Information Management. These frameworks are intended to safeguard access and use of your information.

By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions you are acknowledging that you have read and understood the ABTA Privacy Policy.

In order to conduct this service there is certain information we need to collect from you; your name and email address. We also collect the date and time you access the site. In accordance with the Privacy Act, ABTA will not sell or distribute your personal details.

As part of these terms and conditions you must not:

  • impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or organisation;
  • name or defame others including medical staff/hospitals;
  • abuse, stalk, harass, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of others, including without limitation, rights relating to privacy and publicity;

  • engage in any commercial activity including marketing, advertising or commercial promotion of goods or services.
