Comfort, dignity and the realities of postpartum continence support.
For many women+, the physical recovery after birth can be much more complex than expected. Bladder leakage, bowel changes, prolapse symptoms, pelvic floor injury, post-caesarean recovery, ongoing bleeding and the emotional impact of birth trauma can all affect how someone feels in their body and in their day-to-day life.
Continence products are often spoken about quietly, if at all. Yet for some people, having the right product can make the difference between feeling anxious, exposed or limited, and feeling more confident to sleep, move, leave the house or return to everyday routines.
As part of our Community Supporter partnership with Svelte, Birth Trauma Australia invited women from the BTA community to trial Svelte’s pull-up continence underwear and provide structured feedback on comfort, packaging, fit, confidence and real-life use.
About Svelte
Svelte describes its product as comfort-led, fully breathable pull-up continence underwear designed for softness, movement, discretion and dignity in everyday life. Designed in Australia and crafted in Japan, Svelte sits between lighter reusable options and bulkier high-capacity alternatives. It is designed for everyday wear and may support light overnight use when changed as required depending on individual output, fit and changing routine.
What Reviewers Noticed First
Reviewers commented on the presentation and care taken in the packaging. The experience of opening the product mattered, especially in a category that can often feel clinical, embarrassing or emotionally loaded.
One BTA community product reviewer described receiving a handwritten note from the founder as personal, thoughtful and validating. For her, the note helped the product feel less like a standard continence item and more like something created with care for women navigating birth injuries and incontinence.
Another BTA community product reviewer, who trialled the product after a caesarean birth with twins, said the packaging felt “amazing” and did not feel like a typical postpartum or recovery product. Instead, she said it felt like receiving a treat or special gift.

Comfort and Everyday Wear
Comfort was the strongest theme across the feedback. Reviewers described the product as soft, breathable, light and much less bulky than traditional adult continence products they had tried previously.
One reviewer said she was initially worried the product may feel itchy, but found it soft and comfortable on first wear. She described it as light, discreet and the most inconspicuous continence product she had tried.
Another reviewer also described the product as very soft and lovely to wear. She said that once she moved beyond the first few days after birth, when she needed more abdominal support, the product felt so light it almost felt like she was not wearing anything.

Confidence, Discretion and Peace of Mind
For people living with continence concerns after birth, the emotional load can be significant.
Reviewers spoke not only about whether the product worked, but about how it made them feel: less exposed, less embarrassed and more able to get through the day without constantly thinking about leakage.
One reviewer, who lives with prolapse and levator avulsion, explained that some birth injuries can create both a physical and psychological feeling of openness or lack of support. She found Svelte comfortable as absorbent continence underwear, but felt most supported when she paired it with her existing SRC prolapse shorts, which provided the compression and prolapse support she needed. Together, she said the combination helped her feel secure and “fully taken care of”.
It is important to note that Svelte is designed as absorbent continence underwear and is not intended to provide abdominal, compression or prolapse support.
This reviewer also tested the product overnight. She shared that one of her worries is wetting herself while sleeping. On one night during the trial, she experienced an accident while asleep, but the product contained it without leaking through.
This was one reviewer’s individual experience, and overnight suitability will vary depending on individual output, fit and changing routine. Svelte may support light overnight use when changed as required. For this reviewer, the experience provided significant peace of mind.

Where the Product May Support Postpartum Recovery
Reviewers felt Svelte could be helpful during changing postpartum routines, particularly when bladder control feels uncertain or when someone is beginning to leave the house, return to work or resume everyday movement.
One reviewer said the product could be valuable for women returning to work after birth or becoming more active while still uncertain about bladder control. She also felt it could be useful for women living with longer-term birth injuries who want absorbent continence support during particular activities or light overnight use when changed as required, depending on individual output, fit and changing routine.
Another reviewer said she would recommend the product, particularly because it felt comfortable, breathable and more like wearing something from a boutique than a standard postpartum product.
Practical Feedback From Reviewers
The trial also surfaced practical feedback that may be useful for people considering Svelte during postpartum recovery or while living with longer-term birth-related continence concerns.
Sizing immediately after birth may need extra guidance because body measurements can change quickly. Where measurements fall within both size ranges, Medium may provide a closer fit, while Large may provide a more relaxed fit through the waist and hips. Re-measuring close to the time of purchase may be helpful.
One reviewer who lives with prolapse and levator avulsion found that she wanted additional support and containment alongside the product. She found Svelte comfortable as absorbent continence underwear, but felt most supported when she paired it with her existing SRC prolapse shorts, which provided the separate compression and prolapse support she needed.
It is worth noting that Svelte is designed as absorbent continence underwear, rather than abdominal, compression or prolapse support.
The product was generally described as discreet, though reviewers commented on minor visible bulk or line detailing under very fitted clothing, particularly at the back or lower edge. However, one reviewer noted that even with this, it was still a significant improvement on other continence products or adult nappies they had tried.
Importantly, these points did not outweigh the reviewers’ overall positive experience. They were raised as constructive feedback to help strengthen fit guidance and user confidence.
Overall Response From Reviewers
The feedback collected through this product trial was strongly positive, with reviewers rating the product between 8 and 10 out of 10, giving an average score of 9/10.
Across our interviews, the strongest themes were comfort, softness, breathability, discretion, thoughtful packaging and the emotional value of feeling seen in a product category that many people find difficult to talk about.
No continence product will be the right fit for every person, body or recovery stage. However, for the women who took part in this review, Svelte offered a more comfortable and dignified experience than traditional bulky products, with practical benefits for everyday wear and postpartum confidence.
