Every contribution can make a difference

Birth-related trauma can have profound and long-lasting impacts on women+, families, workplaces and communities.

Independent economic analysis commissioned by Birth Trauma Australia estimates that at least 18% of women+ in Australia who have given birth are living with birth injuries and ongoing conditions – approximately 1.1 million women+. The economic impact of physical birth injuries and ongoing conditions was estimated at $17.5 billion in FY2023-24 alone.

Behind these figures are women+ and families trying to access the information, care and support they need.

Community giving helps Birth Trauma Australia continue building a future where birth-related trauma is better prevented, recognised and treated – and where no family has to navigate recovery without trusted information and support.

  • Donation drives
  • Giving days

Why regular giving matters

Reliable unrestricted funding is particularly valuable to a national charity.

Unlike funding that must be spent on one defined project or activity, individual donations can help Birth Trauma Australia respond to emerging needs and invest in the work that will have the greatest impact.

A growing community of regular supporters can help us:

  • Strengthen long-term organisational sustainability
  • Respond to changing community needs
  • Develop and maintain trusted resources
  • Expand awareness and education
  • Advocate consistently for systemic change
  • Reach more women+ and families
  • Invest in emerging priorities and opportunities
  • Build stronger prevention and recovery pathways

Every regular donor becomes part of the community helping make birth-related trauma impossible to ignore.

Your support helps create lasting change

Birth injuries and ongoing conditions affect far more than the immediate birth experience.

The Nous Group economic impact analysis found that the effects can extend across physical health, mental wellbeing, relationships, parenting, employment, household finances and long-term quality of life. The report also identified significant impacts across the health system, labour market, households and broader wellbeing.

Supporting Birth Trauma Australia helps strengthen the work required across the entire system – from prevention and professional education through to awareness, recovery pathways, research and advocacy.
